Pillar 6 · Courage
Responsibility
Own what needs to be done.
You don't have to be the person who made the mess to be the person who cleans it up.
Story
At Stoic, everyone uses the gym, but I'm usually the one cleaning it up. It's not glamorous work. Picking things up, keeping the place tidy, and making sure it looks good for the next person who walks through the door. As the owner, I could tell myself that someone else should do it. After all, we all use the space. But ultimately, it's my responsibility to make sure it gets done.
Today's Action
Find one thing today that needs doing and nobody owns. Do it without being asked, and don't mention it.
Sit With It
- What in your life right now needs doing that everyone assumes is someone else's job?
- Where are you waiting for permission to fix something obvious?
- What would change if you walked into every room like you owned it?
In the Forge
beginner: Pick one unowned chore at home or at work. Do it today, unasked.
standard: For one week, fix one unowned problem a day without telling anyone.
advanced: Take full ownership of one messy area of your life for 30 days. No delegating, no complaining.
What did you clean up this week that wasn't yours to clean?
Don't wait to be told. If you see it, it's yours.
Shallow men believe in luck, believe in circumstances. Strong men believe in cause and effect.
Everyone is more or less master of his own fate.
